My Life : Race against time..

Hi, everyone!

Welcome back!

Before you start to read this please be aware this journaling entry is very personal and it is extremely a very sensitive topic for me. Lately I have been questioning all my previous and current life changing decisions and the motives behind them and it all finally clicked.

As I am revising my 5 year plan, I’ve noticed so many events have taken place. Events that I honestly did not plan, events I had no idea would happen, and events that were expected. Back when I was in HS my 5 year plan consisted of personal growth and it has been a wild rollercoaster! As I reflect on my college years, I realize that I always felt pressured to graduate on time and finish everything in a timely manner.

After speaking to my parents and some soul searching, I realized when and where it all started. The year I lost my grandma. I lost my grandma when I was about to turn 12. As soon as I found out I canceled my birthday party. You know it is not easy to deal with the death of a loved one. But losing a grandparent is indescribable. Realizing you will not see them or speak to them or hear their voice is the most painful part of it all. Going back to Mexico and not having her around to talk to, hug, or sit with has been the worst pain in the world. Since that year I felt completely guilty. Guilty, because I felt like I ran out of time to make her proud. She did not get a chance to see me grow as an individual. She did not get a chance to see the amazing daughter (my mom) she raised be the World’s Best Mother. Ever since that I year I realized my life was a race against time. A race against time to reach my goals and make my family proud. I know that ironically death is a part of life, but I am not okay with it at all.

With this said, I realized I have always and still continue to speed up my journey. Most of the time I forget to relax and enjoy the little moments in life, even the little chaos life throws at me. The fact that it has been almost a year since I graduated college makes my realize how fast life moves and we have no control over time. “El tiempo no perdona.”

So what’s next? Instead of running full speed I plan to walk the race by the ones I love  and enjoy the time and view.

I hope you all have a blessed day!

Thank you for journaling with me! Until next time.

Teacher Tired: A level of tiredness I did not know existed! + FREE SUPPLIES

Welcome back!

If you are new, Hi!

I am so excited! I just realized I gained a couple of new friends on here!

Update: I lost track of what week this is (Week 3) for me! As many of you may know, I spent the first week of school working with my kiddos in K. With this said, I am now working with my regular first through fifth-grade kiddos and will start serving my K kiddos next week!

Feeling: I’ve been having a difficult time adjusting to my BTS schedule. I wake up at          5:25 am every morning and usually get home around 5:00 pm. As you can tell my sleeping schedule is all over the place! I’ve been spending most of my time doing my LP and looking up research-based interventions for my kiddos. I believe I discovered a new level to tiredness I had no idea existed!

Personal Life: Although my work schedule is currently a little intense at the moment, I am so blessed to be surrounded by my friends!  Seeing them and catching up with them is seriously the best therapy!

Current Goals: I am currently trying to stop drinking Coca-cola but it seems harder than I thought it would be! I also want to make more “teacher” friends! I even started my very own teacher Instagram!  So add me on there it is: _teachingwithjoy

Current Coping Strategies: Avoiding Caffeine, journaling, yoga (my version of it lol )

Side Note: I’ve been obsessing over succulents plants (Echeveria elegans) but I am afraid I will not care for them properly, any advice?

FREE SUPPLIES*: I tried to post the video through here but the file was too large. Find out how you can gain access to hundreds of FREE stationery + educational supplies here: https://youtu.be/hwWesuXt0vc

Make sure to share the website with all your teacher friends!

Orientation Update! Wooot Wooot!

Welcome back! How are yall? I hope everything is going absolutely wonderful! So this week was pretty much a week full of PD! PD is the abbreviation for Professional Development. I can’t wait to share with yall how my week looked. Stick around!

Food:  The county that I work for SPOILED us! They completely fed us! From breakfast to lunch! They even had desserts every day! If you know me, you know I am a foodie! I love food!

Monday: I was so anxious! I arrived there at 7 and signed in. They served us breakfast and I had the opportunity to meet with different educators (mainly elementary & middle). I was completely excited when I saw not one, not two, but THREE teachers that were formerly in a different district where I completed my internship and student teaching!  I also met up with a new colleague. (She was my buddy for the whole week, so grateful to have her in my life!)

Tuesday: I had dairy! So you know my day was going downhill towards the end. Yet, I was so excited! We received a ton of PD! My brain was fried! The orientation took place in a building where I used to attend back in HS so it was such an extraordinary experience as I walked around the halls and sat in the classrooms I used to back in HS. I spent most of my lunchtime reminiscing about everything including better choices I could have made. I also had the opportunity to connect with a couple of new HS teachers and counselors! Towards the end, I found my Tieks’ sister! Yessss! You read it right! I rarely bump into people that actually like my shoes. Can you imagine how excited I was as she approached me! Felt like that was a sign!

Wednesday: I reunited with a spokesperson (that had previously walked into my class last year for observation) and I was so excited that she remembered my kids, my lesson, and me! I was so flattered! Again, the food was AWESOME! We also received tons of PD! By the end of the day, I felt even more excited to fix up my classroom and redo the “comfort corner” with bright colors. I also learned about the 60bmp, I plan to incorporate it in my class! I also ordered TONS of books on amazon to assist me in this journey.

Thursday: Half Here Half There! Referring to half-day orientation and half-day back at our school! Of course, I am not completely new to the school but it was so exciting to see how everything will be scheduled by the very beginning! I had a delicious smoked turkey classic meal! I also officially checked out the teacher laptop that I’ll be using in school. I continued to drop a couple of boxes of folders and paper in my classroom.

Friday: My official first day of Pre-planning for the 2019-2020 school year! It started with Waffle House and ended in tears! Jajaja *Cries in Spanish* I’m so excited for Open house!  Pre-planning is very busy! I made a larger mess in my classroom and have to go back tomorrow (Saturday) to clean up! I also need to change the food for my hummingbirds. Oh yeah! You did not see that coming, huh. It’s true! We have a bird feeder outside my classroom. It is always surrounded by hummingbirds!  I can never get them in a picture but they are always there.

Next: If you’ve stuck around for this long, seriously THANK YOU!

My next journaling session might be a little bit different. I’m thinking about doing an overall reflection.

Starting from scratch! (Sort of)

Welcome back!

It has been an extremely short yet wonderful Summer! I haven’t been blogging as much since I am trying my best to spend as much time with my sister as I can.

Feelings & what is coming up? I am so anxious! I will officially start my “New Teacher” orientation TOMORROW! My stomach feels so funny! I am unsure what to expect or what to wear! Jajaja *laughs in Spanish*  I am trying my very best to go with an open mind and without setting any expectations.

Classroom progress:  I was lucky enough to start setting up my classroom earlier last week! I only have a couple of things I have to order from AMAZON but hopefully, I can get them cheaper during PRIME DAYS.

Any tips? Earlier this week I realized that I am borderline a hoarder. I am having a difficult time organizing and decluttering my classroom. My biggest fear is that I may throw important papers away. What should I do?

Makeup: Any suggestions for a long-lasting powder foundation? Please let me know! My skin is definitely combination, and I need something that will not turn me into a greasy mess after a couple of hours.

** I know a couple of my very closest friends are struggling to create a profile on here, any suggestions**  Shoutout to Ken! (Show this to Kirsten! I miss seeing her on Instagram.)

Thank you to the ones that have sent me very sweet messages. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you!

My First Year Teaching = Mid Year Teaching

Hey friends! Thank you for following me on my newest journey!

There is so much going on, I don’t even know where to begin!

Let’s catch up! As many of you may know, I graduated last December. I decided to take some time off (three weeks off) to grieve and heal. I started teaching the last week of January! As you can imagine I was so excited yet nervous at the same time. I knew most of my colleagues already since exactly a year ago I completed my internship there.

Let’s talk about mental health! Since it’s my first year teaching you can imagine at the beginning I felt very overwhelmed. However, I started to realize that it is OKAY to ask for help, it is OKAY to not know it ALL yet. IT IS OKAY! With this said, starting a new occupation can be a little stressful. I started to miss all my friends from college. I started missing my second-grade kiddos, and my CT from December. I was so used to my old routine that it completely pushed me off the edge.

Meeting new people! Finding a place where you feel loved and welcome is amazing! I absolutely love my new family! I have an amazing mentor teacher and an excellent team that supports me and are available whenever I need them.

Expanding my horizons! I feel very fortunate to have the privilege to work along with a very diverse team. I’ve heard so many horror stories from other teachers about their first year teaching that made me so afraid to open up to my new peers, but I’ve realized that it is all love. Also, respect works both ways.

Kids, Kiddos, Sweethearts, Sweeties, Friends, Babies!  I am currently having the best time of my life working with my kiddos! Working with children helps me realize that everything we know has been taught. I’ve also realized how important it is to practice what we preach! Our children are ALWAYS watching! We must lead by example! I already miss my kiddos!
