Classroom Essentials from Amazon! + Teacher Edition!

Welcome! Today I will be sharing my favorite classroom (teacher edition) essentials I can not live without! I’ve included links in case you are interested in a product.

Disclaimer: All of my opinions and recommendations are honest with good intent. Some of the links are affiliate links. Purchasing through these links will NOT affect your check out process in any way, I make a very small sales commission that will help my blog. I also like to see what items we share common interest.

With this said, lets get started!

  1. Scents! When I moved into my classroom, I wanted to make sure my classroom had a special touch! I wanted everyone that entered my classroom to feel welcome and cared for. As I mentioned on my instagram, I use the oil plug ins in my classroom and the automatic spray holder for my home. Out of all the scents, the Cashmere woods is literally my favorite! I also tried oil diffusers, click here if you would like to compare them.
  2. Skin Sticks! Yesss! My very first one was given to me as a gift! My friend/mentor introduced me to them and now I have three! I am equally obsessed with the Bamboo and Almond & Honey . As a teacher, I spend most of my free time washing my hands as much as possible! Water can quickly dry our hands,  the skin sticks are travel friendly and fun to use. They are super easy to use and leave my hands feeling A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! They don’t leave my hands feeling oily, instead they lock in moisture that can literally last me a whole day! If you get a chance you should try them out! Click here, if you are interested.
  3. Propolis Spray! Yup, that is right! Unfortunately, I tend to get sick every season! My friend/mentor introduced me to Beekeeper’s Natural throat spray! If you would like to compare prices, click here. I trust Beekeeper’s Natural spray because it is alcohol-free, keto friendly, uses raw honey, and only contains THREE ingredients.
  4. VapoRub + Excedrin! There are days when my migraine symptoms will not go away, for those days I have VapoRub! I often get laughed at for using vaporub for almost everything! But it works! I apply some to my temples and nape. With this said, I keep a bottle of Excedrin inside my desk! Since I was 10, I was diagnosed with both Migraine with aura. I was under a special treatment for 4 years and unfortunately it didn’t go as planned. The older I get the worst it gets. Excedrin is here for me and helps me get through a day of teaching!
  5. Sanitizing and disinfecting! Last year we experienced a stomach virus at my school! As an EIP teacher I work with almost 60+ kiddos a day and interact with a lot more! Our janitorial staff used Purell multisurface disinfectant spray to sanitize and disinfect the school. Every afternoon I spray lysol disinfectant spray on desk, tables, materials, and chairs. I also like the way it doesn’t leave a residue behind!

Thank you so much for your support!

Let me know what your essentials are!

Finding “THE” balance between my career and my personal life.

Where can I begin?

Welcome BACK!

If you are new, hi!

To be honest I don’t even know where to start. Finding a healthy balance between my career and my personal life has not been easy at all. My main goal by December is to have it worked out to a point that I don’t feel guilty for spending less time with my amores.

Why change? I personally am in a place where I love my career. I honestly love what I do. However, I feel the need to start setting boundaries between both to prevent me from “burning out” and start on building a stronger life I’ll be proud of. I realized that I’ve distanced myself from my extended family. I’m in a very long healing pathway right now.

Things that I’ve changed so far:

  1. I’ve been trying to leave my classroom at a decent time. With meetings taking up most of my afternoons, I’m trying my best to leave as soon as I possibly can to spend the rest of the afternoon at home. (Even if that means working on school work at home.)
  2. Stopped comparing my life to others. It’s super easy to get sidetracked by what others are doing. For example, watching someone else balance their life so easily. I constantly remind myself that everyone has a different story and priorities. My life is a little complex but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I have two amazing teachers I admire and aspire to be like. Their priorities are in order and they do an extraordinary job teaching!
  3. Learning to say, “No.” I hate not being able to help others at times but I’ve learned that my time is valuable and there are going to be times when I have to pick myself over others. Nothing personal, it’s impossible to make everyone happy.
  4. Having an agenda. That’s right! I’ve invested in a small calendar, I have it color-coded with important dates connected with my career and personal events. I’ve also merged it with the calendar on my cellphone.
  5. Confirming appointments! Time is very valuable, so I’ve been confirming plans with my family members/ friends 24 hours in advance.
  6. Being open to evolving. Evolving is not something that happens overnight and it’s an ongoing process. It can also look very messy before it gets better so I’m learning to be even more patient.

That’s all I have, for now, thank you!

Thank you for joining me on my new journey as an educator. I can’t wait to continue to grow! Don’t forget to be kind and love one another. & always lead by example!

Teacher Tired: A level of tiredness I did not know existed! + FREE SUPPLIES

Welcome back!

If you are new, Hi!

I am so excited! I just realized I gained a couple of new friends on here!

Update: I lost track of what week this is (Week 3) for me! As many of you may know, I spent the first week of school working with my kiddos in K. With this said, I am now working with my regular first through fifth-grade kiddos and will start serving my K kiddos next week!

Feeling: I’ve been having a difficult time adjusting to my BTS schedule. I wake up at          5:25 am every morning and usually get home around 5:00 pm. As you can tell my sleeping schedule is all over the place! I’ve been spending most of my time doing my LP and looking up research-based interventions for my kiddos. I believe I discovered a new level to tiredness I had no idea existed!

Personal Life: Although my work schedule is currently a little intense at the moment, I am so blessed to be surrounded by my friends!  Seeing them and catching up with them is seriously the best therapy!

Current Goals: I am currently trying to stop drinking Coca-cola but it seems harder than I thought it would be! I also want to make more “teacher” friends! I even started my very own teacher Instagram!  So add me on there it is: _teachingwithjoy

Current Coping Strategies: Avoiding Caffeine, journaling, yoga (my version of it lol )

Side Note: I’ve been obsessing over succulents plants (Echeveria elegans) but I am afraid I will not care for them properly, any advice?

FREE SUPPLIES*: I tried to post the video through here but the file was too large. Find out how you can gain access to hundreds of FREE stationery + educational supplies here: https://youtu.be/hwWesuXt0vc

Make sure to share the website with all your teacher friends!

Things I wish I would have UNDERSTOOD When I was YOUNGER… Dear Me,

Welcome back!

If it’s your first time here, hi!

Today I will be doing a little reflection on my younger adult years. Things I wish I would have understood. Funny thinking about it. I was thinking of things I wish I would of known, but then I realized I already knew I just did not understand at that time.

  • Love yourself. Always put yourself first no matter what everyone may think. When you love yourself life gets better. You shouldn’t allow people to make you feel guilty for putting yourself first.
  • Don’t allow people to have access to you when it is convenient for them. Allowing people to pick and choose when they want to talk to you is a huge no-no. Most people tend to treat you how you allow them to treat you, and they get a little too comfortable too quickly. I wish I would have understood that being around me and my energy is a privilege.
  • Just because someone is in your life it does not mean that person is rooting for you. I often got confused assuming everyone in my life was rooting for me. I tend to always see the good in people. I have trained myself to always see the positive side to things in life. I wish I would have understood what my parents meant when they would tell me not everyone is your friend. Just because people are friendly does not make them a friend.
  • Everyone you meet is in your life for a reason or a season. Part of human nature is building relationships with other people. However, the longevity of any relationship is not up to us. Some people will be in our life for a short period of time and that is OKAY! We must make peace with it and move on. Life is too short to be bitter or try to fix every single friendships/ relationships/connection.
  • Protecting your energy. Be picky when it comes to picking out “your crew” they should reflect your energy. The risk of having a “good heart” = we feel that we must “heal” or “fix” people. In addition, accept people for who they are and not what they can be. Read that again.
  • Be who you want to be not who others want you to be. Who cares what others think?! Be your truest form! DO NOT let anyone discourage you or make you feel as if your ideas/goals are too small.
  • Lastly, follow your instinct!

If you made it all the way to the end, I love you!

Thank you for journaling with me! Until next time.

Orientation Update! Wooot Wooot!

Welcome back! How are yall? I hope everything is going absolutely wonderful! So this week was pretty much a week full of PD! PD is the abbreviation for Professional Development. I can’t wait to share with yall how my week looked. Stick around!

Food:  The county that I work for SPOILED us! They completely fed us! From breakfast to lunch! They even had desserts every day! If you know me, you know I am a foodie! I love food!

Monday: I was so anxious! I arrived there at 7 and signed in. They served us breakfast and I had the opportunity to meet with different educators (mainly elementary & middle). I was completely excited when I saw not one, not two, but THREE teachers that were formerly in a different district where I completed my internship and student teaching!  I also met up with a new colleague. (She was my buddy for the whole week, so grateful to have her in my life!)

Tuesday: I had dairy! So you know my day was going downhill towards the end. Yet, I was so excited! We received a ton of PD! My brain was fried! The orientation took place in a building where I used to attend back in HS so it was such an extraordinary experience as I walked around the halls and sat in the classrooms I used to back in HS. I spent most of my lunchtime reminiscing about everything including better choices I could have made. I also had the opportunity to connect with a couple of new HS teachers and counselors! Towards the end, I found my Tieks’ sister! Yessss! You read it right! I rarely bump into people that actually like my shoes. Can you imagine how excited I was as she approached me! Felt like that was a sign!

Wednesday: I reunited with a spokesperson (that had previously walked into my class last year for observation) and I was so excited that she remembered my kids, my lesson, and me! I was so flattered! Again, the food was AWESOME! We also received tons of PD! By the end of the day, I felt even more excited to fix up my classroom and redo the “comfort corner” with bright colors. I also learned about the 60bmp, I plan to incorporate it in my class! I also ordered TONS of books on amazon to assist me in this journey.

Thursday: Half Here Half There! Referring to half-day orientation and half-day back at our school! Of course, I am not completely new to the school but it was so exciting to see how everything will be scheduled by the very beginning! I had a delicious smoked turkey classic meal! I also officially checked out the teacher laptop that I’ll be using in school. I continued to drop a couple of boxes of folders and paper in my classroom.

Friday: My official first day of Pre-planning for the 2019-2020 school year! It started with Waffle House and ended in tears! Jajaja *Cries in Spanish* I’m so excited for Open house!  Pre-planning is very busy! I made a larger mess in my classroom and have to go back tomorrow (Saturday) to clean up! I also need to change the food for my hummingbirds. Oh yeah! You did not see that coming, huh. It’s true! We have a bird feeder outside my classroom. It is always surrounded by hummingbirds!  I can never get them in a picture but they are always there.

Next: If you’ve stuck around for this long, seriously THANK YOU!

My next journaling session might be a little bit different. I’m thinking about doing an overall reflection.

Starting from scratch! (Sort of)

Welcome back!

It has been an extremely short yet wonderful Summer! I haven’t been blogging as much since I am trying my best to spend as much time with my sister as I can.

Feelings & what is coming up? I am so anxious! I will officially start my “New Teacher” orientation TOMORROW! My stomach feels so funny! I am unsure what to expect or what to wear! Jajaja *laughs in Spanish*  I am trying my very best to go with an open mind and without setting any expectations.

Classroom progress:  I was lucky enough to start setting up my classroom earlier last week! I only have a couple of things I have to order from AMAZON but hopefully, I can get them cheaper during PRIME DAYS.

Any tips? Earlier this week I realized that I am borderline a hoarder. I am having a difficult time organizing and decluttering my classroom. My biggest fear is that I may throw important papers away. What should I do?

Makeup: Any suggestions for a long-lasting powder foundation? Please let me know! My skin is definitely combination, and I need something that will not turn me into a greasy mess after a couple of hours.

** I know a couple of my very closest friends are struggling to create a profile on here, any suggestions**  Shoutout to Ken! (Show this to Kirsten! I miss seeing her on Instagram.)

Thank you to the ones that have sent me very sweet messages. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you!
